Olysha Magruder is a passionate and experienced educator with a doctorate in education. Olysha has lived in Gainesville and Alachua County for over 20 years. She is a UF alumna, former teacher in Alachua County at Archer Elementary School and Howard Bishop Middle School, and longtime community activist. Her son attends a local public school in town. She is the Director of Learning Design and Faculty Development at a preeminent academic institution for science and medicine.
She is passionate about protecting our public education, our rights to abortion, health care, and LGBTQ+ rights.
Our children deserve the best education from our public schools. Teachers deserve the respect and freedom to teach without state government interference and control.
I will ensure that public schools are fully funded and teachers are paid a competitive and honest salary.
Our rights are under attack. The right to vote. The right to choose. The right of children to live their truth. The right to keep our local government local.
I will stand up and fight against the attacks on our basic freedom and rights.
Florida will be one of the first states to deal with rising sea levels and mass climate migrations from our coastal areas- we must be prepared as a state to deal with this crisis and treat it as such.
I will push for a 100% renewable-energy requirement in Florida by 2040.
